Newsflash from St Francis Property Owners NPC (SRA): Groyne Construction Progress Update
24 March 2026
Construction of the Long Term Coastal Protection Scheme continues to advance steadily, with key milestones now clearly visible on site.
The River Mouth Groyne has been completed and is fully functional as part of the Long Term Coastal Protection Scheme. The Diagonal Groyne is nearing completion, with final structural elements currently being installed.
The construction of a fourth groyne has now been confirmed. Work is scheduled to resume on either the fourth groyne or the Anne Avenue Groyne following completion of the Diagonal Groyne, ensuring continuity in construction sequencing and marking a significant step forward in the broader rollout of the protection scheme.

Sand dredging operations remain consistent and effective. Material is being extracted from the Kromme River in the vicinity of the mouth, in accordance with the approved Project Plan, and transferred to the beachfront along the spit.
This process is already delivering measurable results. Approximately 100 metres of additional beach is now evident at low tide, indicating successful sediment replenishment and early-stage beach accretion.
The combined impact of the groyne structures and ongoing dredging is beginning to restore the beach profile and improve coastal resilience in the target area.
WBHO Construction will go on leave from 2nd to 7th April for the Easter Holidays.
