COVID Update

After a recent discussion with Dr Jean Malan, we can say that COVID is most definitely in our village, and the delayed stats that we are reading might not show what is happening on the ground.

There is no way to ascertain what the exact numbers are right now, as many tests are being sent to JBay and Cape Town, but it would be safe to say there is more than the official stats.

At this stage, there are no spare hospital beds between George and East London. Any accidents requiring hospitilization for treatment such as sporting accidents, car accidents, wipeouts from reckless jet ski driving etc, patients will need to be sent elsewhere. All locals and visitors are advised to please be careful and to observe existing COVID protocols during the holiday season. We are in a second wave.

COVID and Kouga Municipality Service Delivery

With COVID infections on the rise in our village, there will most likely be some knock-on effects over the holiday season. When we reached out to the Kouga Municipality, Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, had the following to say:

“There has been a high rate of COVID-19 infections among municipal staff since October. The municipality has also lost two employees, as well as a councillor, to Covid-19 related complications over the past month.
While temporary staff are being brought in to ensure service delivery continues, some delays could be experienced.
We apologise for the inconvenience and ask that residents bear with us. The municipality is doing all in its power to minimise service interruptions while keeping its employees, residents and visitors safe.”
