St Francis Property Owners Association Newsletter July 2025
Thank you for supporting the St Francis Property Owners Association – your Ratepayers Association for St Francis Bay. Your annual subscription helps us to fund various community upgrade projects. Here is a summary of these projects for this year:
NEW STREET NAME SIGNAGE

This is our focus project for the current financial year. We aim to provide clear, long-lasting signage for every street in St Francis Bay. Each kerbstone is 1200mm long and features the embossed street name and the Association logo, making it both functional and visually appealing. This initiative has enhanced the aesthetic of our roads and improved wayfinding for residents and visitors alike.
Over 120 concrete kerbs have been installed in the first phase. The kerbstones will replace all the standing street signs, and the KLM has undertaken to remove all the old signage in due course.
The community has enthusiastically received the initiative, and SFPO plans to roll out Phase Two of the project in the next financial year, starting in October.

PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY FOR ST FRANCIS DRIVE

The SFPO are proud to be supporting the construction of the Pedestrian Walkway along St Francis Drive, which will increase safety for our pedestrians. The leg along the golf course has now been completed and is being put to good use. This is a Kouga Business Forum initiative, with the Rotary Club of St Francis providing administrative services.
The Kouga Business Forum has been collecting business sponsorships to complete the pedestrian pathway, which will stretch from Sunset Drive to the CBD. The SFPO Association has agreed to set aside a contribution of R100,000 for this pathway (R6,000 per 10 sq m). The developers of Grand Comoros are completing the construction of the pathway.
As they hold PBO status for donors, the funds pledged are being paid into the St. Francis Rotary Club’s bank account. A further contribution from the Association will be decided upon for next year’s budget. Contributors’ logos will be placed every six square metres on granite blocks to be embedded in the pathway.
A second phase, extending the pathway from Lyme Road South to Neville Road and down to Main Beach, has been submitted for approval.
If you or your organisation are interested in sponsoring a section, please contact the SFPO office.
CORAL TREE AVENUE PLANTING

Approximately 170 stumps have been planted, and St. Francis residents are encouraged to contact the SFPO if they have cuttings to contribute.
Coral trees were chosen for planting along St. Francis Drive from Harbour Road to the Port, as they can be grown from stumps pruned from existing trees at no cost. Care has been taken to avoid any infrastructure which could be affected by the tree roots. These trees will also help reduce the amount of groundwater that collects along St. Francis Drive. Around 170 stumps have been planted so far. The project, which is being managed by SFPO Committee member Clint Carstens and fellow Santareme residents, has been extremely well received. St Francis residents are encouraged to call the SFPO if they have cuttings to contribute.
In the longer term, the planting of coral trees could be extended to include St Francis Drive from the Village to the Sunset Drive intersection.
RECYCLED PLASTIC MONKEY-PROOF WASTE BINS FOR SEA VISTA PATHWAY

Lyn Aitken from SFPO and Truus Hedding from the Kromme Enviro-Trust, and the monkey-proof recycled plastic rubbish bins
The Association has funded the replacement of three vandal- and monkey-proof recycled plastic rubbish bins on this pathway at a cost of R8,500. These have been delivered, and Kromme Enviro Trust members will be monitoring these to ensure they are serviced regularly.
SOLAR LIGHTS FOR CBD

An example of the village solar lights
The Association funded the installation of solar lights on the street lamps in the CBD to ensure that the business district remains illuminated during load shedding and other power outages, providing safer access to local businesses’ clientele.
CCTV CAMERA INSTALLED AT SHARK POINT CAR PARK

The camera at Shark Point, funded by the SFPO Association, has been highly effective in deterring perlemoen poachers.
YOU NEED TO KNOW :
Roads – KLM resealing and repairs begin to roll out:
The Kouga Local Municipality has received a R200 million loan for its road resealing project in Kouga. This project has been launched. Thus, the allocation has been decided now that EAS has completed the assessment of all the roads. There will be four Phases, of which St Francis is the second. Jeffreys Bay is the first phase. We have been told work in St Francis will commence in earnest early next year. In the meantime, Harbour Road has been prioritised with a proper stormwater drainage plan, and works have begun there.
In addition, the resealing of Homestead Drive, Assissi Drive and part of Reservoir Road has also been completed.
Labour Pick-Up Zone
The pick-up point for job seekers has been relocated. It has moved from the corner of St Francis Drive and Assisi to the God’s Acre precinct on Tarragona Road, next to the reservoir, where facilities have been provided. Residents looking for labourers are requested to collect from God’s Acre only.
Municipal Service Reporting :
The simplest and most effective method to report problems with municipal services. Whether you need the sewerage tank emptied, the streetlight isn’t working, or potholes need repairs.
